Bell and Ash in
The Curse of Thadeus Drake
Shortlisted for Wells Literary Festival’s Book for Children, 2020!
One project that is very close to my heart at the moment – and is still in development – is a children’s adventure novel, Bell & Ash in The Curse of Thadeus Drake. This started life many years ago and has undergone various re-writes as feedback has come in from beta-readers and editors and anyone else whose arm I can gently twist to read it! *
I’ve even now finished the first draft of the sequel, Bell & Ash in The Secret Diary of Thadeus Drake, which goes some way to showing how immersed I have become in Bell and Ash’s dare-devil adventures.
Here’s a sneak peek of what you can expect:
In 1813, the adventurous Captain Drake returns from sea with a horde of stolen gold. 200 years later, a young girl is paralysed during a robbery at her father’s antiques shop. Now, four years on, wheelchair-bound Bell and twelve year old Ash – a blind girl with a 6th sense for mystery – are about to uncover the truth behind Drake’s long-lost legacy, bringing the past crashing into the present. Up against ancient curses and menacing robbers who will stop at nothing to get what they want, Bell and Ash are in grave danger as they race against time in their search for buried treasure.
Of course what has happened to Bell during the robbery at her father’s shop turns out to be linked to the treasure brought back by the enigmatic Captain Thadeus Drake and, if they can discover the truth behind the legend, the lives of both Bell and Ash will be changed forever.
